The Whitehead River

So we had a pretty exciting weekend. Saturday, we decided to go to Franklin - as we arrived at the Factory, sirens were going off indicating a tornado sighting. So we stayed there for a couple of hours and watched the weather. Then we attempted to make it to the mall to no avail - flooding everywhere we turned. So we went back home.

We woke up Sunday to water - lots and lots of water. It was everywhere as Brylee would say. Here are several pictures of the Whitehead River. For a few minutes there, I thought we were going to be that family you see on TV that is being rescued by helicopter. I was trying to get my best southern accent ready just in case we were to be interviewed - but thankfully, it did not reach that point.

I always wondered what it would be like living on a river house, but I didn't really expect to find out living on Clifton Road. Anyway, I guess clean-up will begin this week - our yard is a mess!

What a fun Sunday!

The Playset....Ohhhh, The Playset

Several weeks ago we decided that it was time to buy a playset for Brylee and Nolan. Well, I did my research and basically every playset I looked at had the same comment for the people that purchased them - "hard to put together". With my unbelievable handyman skills, I thought it would be a piece of cake for me.

So after buying the playset, I open up one of the three 150lb boxes and find the instruction booklet. 58 pages consisting of 38 phases. So the instruction booklet says that it should take anywhere from 6-12 hours to put together. However, none of the wood was numbered.

Lets just say that I have worked on this monster for 32 hours now and still have not got the monkey bars or the swings on this thing yet. But, it is actually usable right now. We have a slide, a picnic table, and a rockwall that Brylee has been having a blast on. I will take more pictures when I finally get it completely finished.

Actually she didn't do a head-first slide but she does like to have someone at the bottom of the slide to catch her before she hits the ground. She is climbing both the ladder and the rockwall by herself and sliding down herself. She has a blast with it so, I guess all-in-all it was worth the 32 hours spent so far!

Well the kids are really growing and I cannot seem to keep this blog up-to-date as you can tell. Nolan is attempting to crawl now - but he still more or less just scoots. Brylee is still being a great big sister. My next post will be of my project over the past few weeks....the playset. Stay tuned.

6 Months

Nolan is just over six months old now and he is really growing - He is sitting up by himself all the time. His big sister still provides him all the entertainment he needs. He will stare at her and just laugh.

Snow Days

Two different snows.....in Tennessee.....in one year - and we have the pictures to prove it. Who would have thought? Brylee absolutely LOVES the snow. When she is out in it, she doesn't want to come in - no matter how cold she may get. We had a blast playing out in the snow.

So it has been a few days since my last blog entry - or maybe a few months - anywho, the kids are really growing as you can see in the pictures. Nolan just started sitting up some on his own over the past few days. He is still a happy little thing. Brylee continues to make us laugh daily. She loves playing with her brother and is a GREAT big sister. I will do a better job keeping this thing up-to-date.

On Janurary 3rd, my Mama passed away from lung cancer. Here are a few pictures of her. I was thankful that I could be with her the last three days. She woke up and said, "Hey Markie". She died on Sunday and it was very peaceful which I am also thankful for. I am sad that Brylee and Nolan will not remember her but there will be plenty of BB stories to tell them (just like Mama used to tell her Mark and Matt stories).

4 1/2 Months and Daddy's Birthday Cake

Nolan is now 4 1/2 months old. He is getting big on us too. I think he literally smiles all the time if that is even possible. He also is rolling over from belly to back and, as of a couple of days ago, from back to belly.

Nolan made is acting debut last weekend as he had the lead roll in our church play - he has had raving reviews with his interpretation as baby Jesus. It made us proud that he could nail that role with no previous acting experience. I will try to put up a video in the near future.

Last week, Nolan decided he wanted to roll over. At first, I was skeptical since he would not roll over for me. Brylee did back up her Mama's claim. But he finally rolled over for me too and now we even have it on video - so I guess Julie was telling the truth after all.

Trip to Pigeon Forge

Last weekend, Julie, Brylee, Nolan, and I went to Pigeon Forge and stayed until Tuesday. We had a great time. Brylee especially liked all of the rides. She rode a lot of them by herself as you can see in the pictures. I really didn't think she would like most of them - but I was wrong. She loved them and didn't want to stop riding them.

On Sunday, we went to a pumpkin patch in Ethridge, TN. Brylee had a good time petting the animals and looking at the pumpkins but her favorite part was sliding down the slides and riding the cars. I guess we could have just saved time and money and gone to the park - but Brylee did really like it and we had a great time.

So Julie thought it would be cute to have Brylee and Nolan have some matching Halloween pajamas. Lets just say that they fit a little more like Under Armour pajamas on Brylee and she was not happy about that as you can tell. Nolan, on the other hand, loved his.

Not sure how many people have seen "A Christmas Story", but the only thing that would have made the scene with Brylee better would have been if she said, "I can't put my arms down!"

Disney On Ice

Julie, Brylee, and I went to Disney on Ice about a week and a half ago. I thought Brylee would really like it but wasn't sure if it would keep her attention the whole time. It lasted about an hour and 45 minutes with a 15 minute intermission after the first hour and Brylee really seemed to enjoy it. She watched the whole show. We had a great trip to Knoxville last weekend. Brylee and Nolan were excellent. They stayed in the hotel room with Grammy and Aunt Ellen while Julie, Tyler, Uncle Kenny, and I went to the football game. A great way to kick off the football season!

1 Month Old....Almost

Nolan will be a month old tomorrow - and he is doing great. As you can see, Brylee still likes to get in his face as often as she can and play with him. He has also had a couple of firsts over the past couple of days - yesterday he had his first bottle and his first time with the pacifier. Both went well.

Two Weeks

Nolan is over two weeks old now. He is still an eating, sleeping, and pooping machine. As you can tell by some of these pictures, Brylee has a lot of fun with him. He is the only one in the family that she will go up to and kiss without being asked, so I am a little jeolous of that. She loves helping with baths and has her own stool in Nolan's room to watch him get his diaper changed - in my opinion she has watched enough...it is time for her to change his diaper.

Nolan's Birth

Tuesday, August 4th was like any other Tuesday. I woke up, took a shower, and got ready for work. Before I left, I went to say goodbye to Julie (Brylee was still sleeping). As I was about to leave, Julie motioned for me to come to her because she had something to tell me. But when I got near her, she just said nevermind and told me bye. So I left for work not knowing that her contractions had started at 6:45 that morning.

It was a normal morning - I saw about 15 patients at the office. Just before my last patient of the morning, I had a call from Julie. She asked, "Are you ready to go to the hospital?" I obviously knew what she meant but still asked why. She responded by finally letting me in on the fact that she was in labor - I guess I was the last person to know in her family. She had been to see her Obstetrician and was dilated to 3.5 at the time. So, I finished up at the office and headed upstairs to the labor and delivery floor.

When I got to the labor and delivery floor, the nurses were getting Julie all set up. She told me of her morning - how she knew that I was extremely nervous during Brylee's birth so she decided to let me have a peaceful morning (ok....so I threw up and had an upset stomach all day during Brylee's birth and she reminds me of this every chance she gets. She actually had to tell me to suck it up DURING THE BIRTH WITH BRYLEE and that she was the one having the baby and not me. But, you have to understand that the first birth I ever witnessed was a disaster and had to have an emergency C-section.)

About 4:00 or so, Julie was dilated to about 6. About 20 minutes later, she was a 9 and the nurse was calling her doctor. 3 pushes later, Nolan was born. He was born at 4:56pm and weighed 7 lbs 5.6 oz and was 20 inches long. We stayed just over 24 hours in the hospital and were home by Wednesday night.

Quick update on Nolan - everything is going well, although he does not like to sleep at night just yet. But, he is eating great and boy is he ever pooping. He has already had his newborn checkup and is back up to 7 lbs 4 oz. I will try to post a more in-depth blog in the next couple of days about Nolan's big day.

At 4:56 PM, the Lord blessed us with a beautiful healthy baby boy. Nolan Allen Whitehead weighed 7 lbs 5 1/2 oz and was 20 inches long. Both Mama and Nolan are doing well. More updates to follow on our blog.

Julie went to the doctor yesterday - everything is still going well (except for a little swelling of Julie's feet and ankles). We have officially made it past when Brylee was born. Brylee was born at exactly 38 weeks and today is 38 weeks and 1 day for Nolan.

We went to Knoxville over the weekend for a baby shower for Nolan. Thankfully, Julie did not go into labor while we were in Knoxville (although I think at this point she is just ready for Nolan to get here and may have been ok with a trip to a Knoxville hospital). Due date is Aug 12th but Julie is really hoping for him to be 2 weeks early like Brylee was.

It is amazing that we are already at 29 weeks - I guess when you are busy with a 19 month old, time sort of flies by. Everything is still going well. We have been extremely busy this weekend getting ready for Nolan to arrive. We painted a bed for Brylee and moved all of her furniture into Nolan's room. Tonight is Brylee's first night in a big-girl bed. I will put pictures up in the near future of both Nolan's room as well as Brylee's room.

Julie went to the doctor yesterday and everything is still going well. We actually were able to get another ultrasound since the DVD of the last one would not work.

And now to get to the name.....after several vetoes by both parties, the name we finally agreed upon is......Nolan.

Brylee is getting too smart for us. Recently, her Mama has been making her take her daytime naps in her bed instead of with Mama. Lets just say, that has not been the highlight of her day. She usually cries for 45 min to an hour. She also will tend to throw up because she gets so mad. So....yesterday, when she was being fed her lunch, Brylee decided to take matters into her own hands. She went to sleep in her highchair instead of being forced to sleep in her bed. Score one for Brylee.

I always enjoy when Mama and Brylee decide they want to bake. However, Brylee didn't want to make brownies. So Mama asked Brylee if she wanted to make a cake, and she said yes to that. So, when I got home I had one of the flattest cakes I have ever seen (although they were really good brownies).

We went shopping for Baby Boy Whitehead for the first time last weekend. Its amazing.....not everything they make for babies is pink - there is actually some blue out there too!

Brylee has two new favorite past-times......coloring and playing with stickers. I think she could look through a sticker book all day long - of course, all of the stickers usually wind up on her shirt. She is not the best colorer yet, however.....she can't stay within the lines or anything. But, she sure loves it. Here she is coloring Pooh, and what do you know, she is using the orange crayon.

Like I said, the stickers usually wind up on her shirt. Did I mention that she LOVES Mickey!

The picture is a little blurry, but it was definitely a boy. The arrow points to the important part that let us know that.

He was right on schedule as far as growing. He weighed about a pound today and is still measuring right on target for the due date - August 12th. We still haven't decided on a name (for some reason Julie is still vetoing Gunther and Mark Jr.).

First of all, we survived vacation at Disneyworld. After the first couple of days, I was not sure that was going to be the case. Brylee managed to throw up in almost every park and every hotel room we stayed in while we were there. She had a double ear infection toward the end of the week as well. But, she seemed to have a great time (minus a little allergy flair up that is documented later in this blog).

Valentine's Day was a busy day for the Whiteheads. Brylee opened her presents on Valentine's Eve because we left for Knoxville on Valentine's morning to see the Vols play. It is not a holiday without Brylee getting something that is orange. She had a big time at her first UT event. On the way home, she did make somewhat of a scene in Opry Mills Mall. On our way out of Gymboree, Brylee vomited all over the place....and I do mean all over the place. There was a line of vomit stretching about 15 feet as Julie continued to push her before any of us saw the masacre. You should have seen some of the looks that we got as we tried to clean her up. I am sure this is the first of many embarrasing moments we will have in public with our kids.

15 Months

Brylee and Julie are doing well. Brylee had her 15 month shots yesterday and did great (so I am told). She is really getting around well now...even running at times. That tennis racquet will be in her hands in the near future. She is saying more words now and even attempting to sing at times. I am thinking about putting her on American Idol next year. Her favorite show is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and she dances to the songs on that show.

Yep, Brylee is going to be a big sister. She is currently getting over an ear infection but she has been doing great. She sends her best. I have been lovingly calling our newest little blessing "Gunther", although I don't think Julie is wild about that name. I think Brylee really likes that name though. Julie is 11 weeks now and doing great. She feels a little nauseous at times but otherwise is doing great. We will start putting those weekly pictures of Julie up soon. So far, not a lot to see there.

Knoxville Trip

Over the weekend we made a visit to Knoxville to see friends. We met at Leslie and Mike's house and had a great time. The babies were great and did a great job entertaining everyone. I know I got my exercise by chasing Brylee all over the house. Shelby, Brylee, Madi, and Braden were all very well behaved and had a good time....most of the time anyway (things took a turn for the worse in the group picture that I have on here).

After a short hiatus, I guess it's time to continue the blog. Brylee is finally walking and getting into everything! I tried to tell her mama that walking would only lead to no good. She had a great Christmas and received all kinds of presents. I have quite a few pictures of her opening presents on the blog as you will see. She really enjoyed opening them and thought all the gifts under the tree were for her.....which I guess most of them were. Also, I have do have a picture from her first birthday party. I will try to do better in keeping the blog up-to-date.

9 Months (Almost)

Brylee will be 9 months old in about a week. She is growing very fast and learning new things everyday. She is now crawling all over the place and getting in to everything (as you will soon see in one of the pictures). She has perfected the wave and, good news Vols fans, she can signal touchdown on command. Daddy is still her favorite word to say (which is ok by me).

It is always fun to see what position Brylee will be in when we wake up in the morning. Sometimes Brylee will be half standing with her head rested against the top of the bumper and her arms on the side of the crib. Other times, she will be in a sitting position and slumped over like she is doing toe-touches.

Brylee now weighs 19 lbs, 10 oz. She is getting her 9 month pictures made in about 2 weeks. Oh, and she now has 3 teeth.

Vacation 08

Brylee's first vacation was to Amelia Island, Fl. She traveled very well - slept most of the way down and back. She seemed to enjoy herself, although she was unsure of the water at first. Since we don't even have a bathtub at home, this was really the first time she was around a lot of water. We spent as much time as possible at the kiddie pool. We found out the first day that Brylee did not care too much for the ocean. She was pretty scared of those waves. And, at first, she did not care too much for the pool either. As the week went along, Brylee started liking the pool more. By the day we left, she really started having fun at the pool.

7 Months

Brylee has passed the seven month mark and is doing great. She finally got her first tooth yesterday after working on it for a couple of months. She has learned several new tricks recently. Her favorite thing to do is fake cough with you. If you cough at her, expect a cough to come right back at you.

She still has not crawled yet, but she does do a reverse crawl. If you lay her on her stomach, she will start scooting backwards. She also can now pull up to stand. And, much to her Mama's dismay, she says Dada all the time. Another favorite past-time of hers is throwing down her toys so that you can pick them up for her.

She got her six month pictures about a month ago and put on a show. We have some really good ones from that visit.

6 Months

It is pretty unbelievable that Brylee is 6 months old now. She is getting bigger by the day....she is now 17 lbs, 12 oz (that is a whopping 1 pound, 11 oz more than she weighed 4 weeks before then) and she is 25 1/2 inches long. She is really getting good at sitting up and the bald spot on the back of her head is starting to fill in.

Brylee's 6 month pictures are on Tuesday. I hope she smiles this time. Julie and I will be leaving her for 4 days this weekend as we are going to the PGA golf tournament in Jacksonville, Florida.

5 Months

4 month picture

Brylee is growing by the day and is now 5 months old. She seems to be making new faces every day and absolutely loves to play with her feet. She has had several firsts over the past month or so - she rolled over at 4 months, 5 days, celebrated her first Easter, stayed in Opryland Hotel for the first time, and started to eat baby food (she hasn't exactly loved the sweet peas so far).

Brylee now weighs in at 16 lbs, 1 oz. and is 25 1/2 inches long. She seems to be getting a little attached to her mommy and loves it when her mommy rocks her. She has really started to reach a lot as well.

3 3/4 Months

Sorry for the delayed post. Brylee is now 3 3/4 months old. I have lost count of the weeks so we will start counting by months now. She seems to be learning something new everyday. She smiles all the time and loves to giggle at her mommy's singing. She also loves looking at her hands and feet and has decided that her hands actually taste pretty good. She came to the office yesterday and weighed in at 14 lbs, 10 oz. Now, if we could just get her to poop more consistently...

12 1/2 Weeks

Brylee seems to be growing more and more each day. She is definitely plumping up - weighing in at 12 lbs (60th percentile) with a length of 22 1/2 inches (30th percentile). Julie works with her everyday, and Brylee is jabbering quite a bit. She is also smiling a lot now. She is sleeping very well - usually from 10 PM to 7 AM. I just wish I could get that much sleep.

We are starting to get Brylee out more, now that she is much better from her sickness. I think basketball is going to be her sport - although if so, she is going to have to be a little Spud Webb out there. She has been to two of Tyler's basketball games (Julie's brother) and seems to have a great time. She also enjoys watching basketball on TV (especially when the Vols play - ok, maybe it doesn't matter who is playing). She can be fussy and when basketball comes on, she will just watch and watch.

If anyone wants to come visit, we have plenty of room and you are more than welcome to come.

Brylee is doing much better than she was 1 week ago. She is still taking breathing treatments, but only needs them about 3 times a day now. Her cough has gotten much better and her appetite has come back with a vengeance. She has really been smiling a lot lately and trying to talk. She even will sing herself to sleep. Unfortunately, I think she is going to have Julie's voice.

Brylee went to church today and made her presence known. She had 3 of the loudest/wettest poops of her young life during communion (I think most of the people on our side of the church heard it). She makes me a little more proud every day.

Well, I almost made it a full month without a blog entry, but I got yelled at by a few people for not updating this.....so here is the update. Brylee continues to grow well. She is up over 11 lbs now. She seemed to have a good Christmas. We made a video of her opening her presents and she actually did try to help on a couple of them.

About a week ago, she started sleeping through the night. We will lay her down around 10:30 or so, and she will sleep to around 7 usually. She is kind of restless, and usually ends up sideways in the bed by morning time.

Brylee has been sick since around New Years. Yesterday, she came to my office and she has RSV as well as a double ear infection. So, she has been a little out if it the past couple of days.

Hopefully, I will keep the blog updated a little more frequently in the future. We sure have enough pictures to keep it updated - we bought a new Canon Rebel XTI last week and had already taken 75 pictures with it by that night.

Brylee is 5 weeks old today. Sorry for no recent picture posts, but for some reason I don't feel like I have as much time as I used to. I will put some up soon though. Brylee went for her 1 month check-up today. She has gained up to 9 lbs 2 oz. So, she seems to be doing well. Now if we could only get her to sleep at night-time. 1 Week Update

I thought I would put a quick update on how things were going. I will try to upload a picture or two in the near future. It is amazing how I don't have time to do those sort of things at home anymore. Anyway, Brylee is doing great. We went to the doctor on Monday and she weighed 6 lbs 8 oz. So, she probably lost down below that and just started gaining. Her next checkup is at 1 month old.

We have figured out that Brylee likes to be cuddled. She sleeps like a rock when you are holding her....not quite like a rock when your not. She is doing great though. She can get some mighty good distance on her poop. On one special day, she cleared 4 feet onto a wall! I am pretty proud of her. I will try to put up pictures in the near future. Not to worry, we have not stopped taking pictures of her.
